About DO-TALK

DO Talk is a series of mini-events in which we combine regenerative activities with inspiring conversations. By working with our hands as well as reflecting on what concerns us, we create space for new perspectives and meaningful conversations, in an intimate setting.

Do Talk is for anyone who is curious about other perspectives - likes to create or learn something, and also likes to explore in depth with others.

This edition will focus on the connection between clothing, identity, color and memories: we will work with our personal memories, dive into the history of indigo - AND learn to dye with indigo.

What to expect.

A day where clothing becomes more than fabric - an invitation to slow down, connect and discover the meaning of what you wear.

🧵 TALK: Coming home to your clothes

We will start at 10:00 with coffee and tea. Afterwards we will take fashion psychologist Anke & fashion journalist Anna Roos take us through the concept of "enclothed cognition" - how our clothing affects our feelings, behavior and self-image. Through stories, reflection and conversation, we will discover how clothing can help you feel stronger and more connected - and begin to appreciate clothing differently....

From noon to 1:30 p.m. there will be a delicious vegan lunch with plenty of time to continue the conversation or just take a break.

💙 DO: Indigo dyeing with meaning

After lunch, we will take natural paint expert Roua takes us into the world of indigo in a 4-hour workshop. We experience smell, color and history of this special pigment and discover the history of indigo in the Netherlands and Europe. Then we learn the Shibori dyeing technique where you fold, bind and sew fabric to create beautiful patterns. Then we will dye our own garments in a natural indigo dye bath!

We will conclude the day with a snack and drink starting at 5:30 pm.

Cost

The regular fee for this event is €200. Are you a VELD friend? Then you get a 10% discount and the cost is € 180.

Practical information

    • 10:00 welcome with tea & coffee

    • 10:15 start talk "Coming home through your clothes"

    • 12:00 a vegan lunch with matching drinks

    • 13:30 start workshop "Indigo dyeing with meaning"

    • 17:30 closing with drinks and snacks

    • 18:30 end 

  • For the morning session, bring an item of clothing that has special meaning to you, or that you want to give meaning to.

    In addition, bring a second item which you want to dye. This can also be the item from the morning program. You may bring an item of clothing, but also (small) other fabric items such as napkins or scarf.

    Make sure the garment you want to dye is of natural material: cotton or linen - and washed.

  • You will be well taken care of all day! There will be coffee and tea, drinks and snacks and of course a delicious lunch. Do you have any special requests? If so, please let us know!

  • Amsterdam; the exact location of this event will follow later.

  • Since we do not have large margins, our events can only go on if there are enough participants. So it may happen that there are not enough registrations, and we have to cancel the event. We always notify you of this in time.

    • Regular rate: €200.

    • VELD friend: €180.

    At VELD we believe in a total regenerative Approach. This means that in addition to the content of our activities and events, we also look at how we treat each other, what the agreements are with partners and suppliers, and that we pay them fairly.

    Most of the cost therefore goes to the content hosts. A smaller portion goes to food & beverage & venue.

    VELD has no profit motive, so there is no large margin on the events. The small margin we do have is used to cover expenses.
